September was a busy month for the HFD, 30 years ago. . .on this day. . .1984-2255 hrs. 408 S. Cameron St. At this site was a large two story brick commercial building approximately 100’ front x 200’ deep. The building housed the offices of the Dept. of Environmental Resources (DER). The cause of origin of the fire was unknown. Heavy fire damage was sustained to the roof and second floor offices with smoke and water damage to the first floor. During the height of the fire the roof collapsed into center interior. The fire was very spectacular. Overall loss was estimated at $750,000. HFD companies worked seven hours. One fireman received minor injuries. Four aerial pipes were put in service along with numerous handlines and deckguns. A Platoon, fifth alarm.
