Serendipitous? Sometimes. Time magazine, April 28, 2014 features Episcopal priest, Barbara Brown Taylor. She is a prolific writer and thinker about the face. Her latest book, Learning to Walk in the Dark. I know her, well I have had dinner with her a few times at Montreat. She is a native of Tuscaloosa so we had that in common. What struck me about her latest work is our interest in a common theme. We both have reflected on reimagining the darkness. My source is much more modest. Leonard Cohen s line: cracks are how the light gets in. Another is Buechners Listening to your Life. I think listening to Cohen and reading both Taylor and Buechner would be a great chance to se darkness differently. It is not to rid ourselves of the dark, but to allow it to speak to our spirit. Light and dark bleed into one another. In a poetic way they are the same in some sense, both helpful guides to the spirits call. Read and listen. Pastor Sam
