Serial Killer Sought, Tongaat, KwaZulu Natal: Residents of Hambanathi, Tongaat, are urged to be on high alert after it has been confirmed that a serial killer is operating in the area. Simphiwe Gift Khoza, is believed to be behind the murders of Phindile Ndlovu, 42, Philisiwe Hlatshwayo, 44, and an unidentified female. All three victims were strangled in the sugar fields surrounding the Hambanathi area. Post-mortem results revealed that the women were strangled and bound with their own clothing. Hlatshwayo and the unidentified women were set alight. Simphiwe is also wanted in connection with 26 other murders that occurred in the Greenwood Park area some 15 years ago. The modus operundi of the Hambanathi murders are the same as the “Riverman” murders which occurred in Greenwood Park. The notorious killer, who stalked Durban’s northern suburbs for unsuspecting women, was never captured. The suspect somehow lures his victims, African females, to secluded areas and murders them by strangulation.
