Serial abuser roams free BY FLORIS STEENKAMP/Informanté The heinous assault of a business woman by her former boyfriend that left her for dead, and send shock waves through the community of Walvis Bay, has not been put to rest and this time around he might find himself behind bars. Helen Adams, who ended a four-year abusive relationship with André Mulder early in 2013, and laid charges of fraud and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm against him, was again beaten by him within his 24 month suspension period granted by the court. On 17 April this year after she laid a charge of fraud against Mulder, he arrived at her office and brutally assaulted her, which left her unconscious in a pool of blood. Mulder returned minutes after this attack and again assaulted Adams and left with the words: “if she was not dead, she is dead now”. A horrified employee witnessed and heard it. Mulder was arrested several weeks later after he fled the scene, and received a fine of N$6 000 and a twenty-four months’ suspended sentence after pleading guilty in the Walvis Bay Magistrates’ Court on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. However, about three weeks ago Adams was again the victim of assault by Mulder who slapped her violently against her head. This time she went a step further by not only laying a charge of assault against him, but also obtaining a restraining order. She told Informanté that she feels let down by the justice system, adding that she recollected the horror and fear she experienced, as the man who put her in hospital for 10 days is yet again in a position to threaten and assault her. Mulder’s run-ins with the law are not over, as he still faces two counts of theft and one of fraud. Two of the cases relates to incidents whilst he was involved with Adams and another is the alleged theft of building material from a second local resident.
