Serious biblical question,I am not trolling. I am seeking thoughtful responses. Romans 12:18 says: Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Does this not mean that vengeance is not mine, it is not yours, it is the Lords? Does this not mean that the killing someone who has wronged us is against Christianity? I wholeheartedly believe this. And if I err on the side of not killing others as a form of punishment, what is the harm? I separate this query from that of self-defense. I have no problem with killing in the name of self-defense or the defense of others. But if there is no imminent threat, taking someone who has wronged you and executing them is not self defense nor the defense of others. It is simple vengeance. And we know that does not belong to us if we follow Jesus teachings. And if we contract out this vengeance to someone else, including the state, the calculus has not changed. Now, I seek enlightenment. Fire away, Facebook.
