Seriously? There was a time when I took a job as a kitchen lead at a local elementary. it was my job to make sure the hot food stated hot, cold cold, that the right amounts of food used and not wasted yada yada yada. I loved this job as it afforded me time to be with my child while also making an income without the need for childcare. I often ran into children with negative balances, forgotten lunches etc. I was told to give these children a milk and granola bar. Many times I made up the difference, ran a tab or paid for a day or so for this child or that. I would send home a note if the patents lack of concern or my out of pocket was excessive. I always made sure my till balanced and I always made sure no one was made an object of ridicule or center of attention due to lack of funds. We were also told by the school district to throw away any left over food instead of giving it away to hungry children without money. I understand some workers are over taxed and told to do or do with out your job. But honestly I would quit before I took food away from a child. I understand the burden on the school district but there are other areas in need to be streamlined than extra peaches to a 4th grader. This situation is shameful.
