Sermon Notes: As we move into the summer season, we begin a new sermon series. The basis for this series is the New Testament book of Acts. What a great book! It is well worth the time invested to read it! I encourage you to do so as we go through different parts of it in this series. Since I will be gone for several weeks this summer, several colleagues and friends join me in preaching this series. I know that you will show them the same kindness and support that I have been so blessed to consistently receive from you. Now, the book of Acts. It is often referred to as the acts of the apostles. Yet, as you read it, you realize that a better title might be, the acts of the Holy Spirit through the apostles. The truth is simple: the book is not about Peter or John or James or Paul or even Luke (who wrote it), although each of these is vital to the story. The story is about the acts of the Holy Spirit in and through the infant church community. As we go through the book, then, the best way to respond to it is to open our lives to the working of the Holy Spirit. Then, our lives will be characterized as the acts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Loma Linda University Church community. May the Spirit have free reign in our lives and in our church.
