Sermon Notes C. Arlando Mitchell, Sr., Ministering Evangelist Shady Acres Church of Christ Sunday, May 25, 2014 ~ 10:30 am Scripture Reading: Psalms 23 Subject: “Too Much Wool” What happens when sheep grow long wool? The wool begins to pick up the products of the sheep’s environment. Through the natural processes of life, we pick up things that allow us to be cast down. When we become children of God, we write our story with Him. Life intervenes when we are trying to develop our relationship with God. Without the help, mercy and grace of God, we would have to carry those burdens. Sheep do not naturally like to be sheared. We will fight tooth and nail to hold on to things that we don’t like to let go. Old wool (our old man) must come off. The wool is a liability and is not our friend. It will cause our life to go into a tail spin. Ephesian 4:1 – I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called. Develop the ability to walk in the newness of life. Ephesians 4:22 – That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. The old man will deceive us into believing that our wrong is right. Put on the new man – the spiritual law of reversal. Be ye angry and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Anger uncontrolled vs. anger in control. Work things out in a timely fashion, work on resolving your anger. Process your anger. Neither give place to the devil. One of the ways the devil is effective is that he stirs up our anger. Genesis 4: - after Cain’s offering was rejected, his countenance fell. Sin has to be invited in. Sin will crouch in, but we allow him to enter. We cannot force the devil out. The only thing that can drive the devil out is God himself. We must listen for Jesus’ knock. The spiritual law of reversal helps us to shear the wool.
