Sermon Title: Experiencing God Through Symbols And Tokens - II Scriptural Reference: Acts 19:11-12, II Corinthians 12:13, Isaiah 1:19, Matthew 11:29-30, John 7:37-39, Psalm 1:3, Acts 2:38, II Corinthians 1:22 Definition of Symbol / Token 1. Something which serves as a sign of something else. 2. Something that represents something else. 3. It is something visible or perceptible that by association represents something else that is invisible. - Acts 19:11-12 Symbols and tokens are used to transmit or transfer the power of the Holy Spirit to meet the needs of people. The rainbow is a symbol and token given by God as a reminder of His covenant and promise to man that He will not destroy the Earth again with a flood. Attributes Of The Holy Spirit 1. The Holy Spirit is a person As a person, the Holy Spirit can: a) hear when we call to Him b) be grieved 2. The Holy Spirit is God - II Corinthians 12:13 As God, He has all the attributes of God. He is omnipresent and all knowing. 3. He desires a relationship and fellowship with us Without a relationship and a deep fellowship with the Holy Spirit life will be difficult and unfulfilling. One reason why bad things happen to good people is because these good people never take seriously the promptings of the Holy Spirit to act on them. Insensitivity and disobedience to the Holy Spirit opens the door for calamity and troubles to befall us. As believers we must take our fellowship with the Holy Spirit seriously and also learn to listen and obey Him. Obedience to the Holy Spirit will save you from calamity and destruction. Always remember that if we are willing and obedient we will eat of the good of the land. - Isaiah 1:19 Symbols And Tokens Of The Holy Spirit 1. Yoke - Matthew 11:29-30 The yoke is a symbol of assistance. The Holy Spirit gives assistance in order for us to carry our burdens successful. He is the power that takes us through our challenges, difficulties and gives us rest from our labour. He is our help in times of trouble and weakness. 2. River - John 7:37-39 In John 7:37-39, Jesus compares the Holy Spirit with a river. A River represent: a) an agent of prosperity and wealth - Psalm 1:3 b) a force that cannot be hindered or obstructed. It has the power to remove every obstacle in its course. If you yield to the Holy Spirit, He will give you the power to overcome every obstacle you encounter in life. 3. Gift - Acts 2:38 The Holy Spirit is Gods gift to man for an effective relationship with God. The Holy Spirit gives us grace to make life easy and comfortable. A gift makes you feel special. The Holy Spirit is the expression of Gods love and thoughtfulness for man. The Holy Spirit also gives us certain unique gifts, talents and abilities aimed at making life easy and comfortable. He gives us favours and things we did not work or labour for. 4. A Seal - II Corinthians 1:22 The Holy Spirit is Gods seal on a believer. Significance Of A Seal a) A seal is a sign that a package has been inspected and approved as quality. b) A seal makes a package secured and cannot be tampered with. c) A seal is a mark of ownership. d) A seal is a security for a safe delivery of the package to its rightful owner. In Genesis , God put a seal on Cain so that he is exempted from calamity and destruction in spite of his mistakes and sins. 5. The Earnest A guarantee for the manifestation of every promise of God. The Holy Spirit is Gods guarantee of a believers successful life.
