Sermon Topic Sunday 2/9/14 Elder Chris Moran With all the snow and bad weather we’ve been having, sometimes we just have to endure to the end … The little children sang a song called “The Lord is My Shepherd”, and the older children read from Mosiah 2:28-32 Storm and Tempest 2 Nephi 11:116-117 … we are seeing these prophecies being fulfilled in our day. We think of hurricanes and tornadoes, but not usually winter storms. It has been cold when it should be hot, and hot when it should be cold. Heaven and Hell I don’t want to make this a “fire and brimstone” sermon … but the doctrine of Heaven and hell are fundamental to the Christian religion – it’s what happens when we leave here A survey of about 1200 people found that … 56% of people surveyed believe in the devil; 53% believe in hell; 43% believe that “hell is a place of punishment where people go when they die; 62% believe in heaven and think that they are going there A Pew study in 2001 found that 71% believed in hell; in ’08 that had changed to 59%. Another organization found in 2013 that only 53% believed in hell … that number keeps dropping. Chris showed a video survey of young people … there was a great diversity of belief, or disbelief, regarding hell.
