Set a guard over my mouth Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Ps. 141:3. My brother never lacked for words. He had his say whether a person wanted to listen or not. One day he told me that he never had to think before he spoke because when he opened his mouth words just spilled out. Im hoping that is not a family trait. According to the great theologian, Rush Limbaugh, words matter. Most of us have had the foot and mouth disease strike at unexpected times. We have all said things that should not have been said. A woman asked a young man in the produce department if she could buy a half head of lettuce. He told her that they only sold them as a whole head. The lady said, Ive been shopping in this store for many years and it would seem that being I am such a good customer you would sell me a half head of lettuce. The young man tried to calm her down by telling her he would go ask the store manager. He walked to the front of the store and said to the manager, There is a crazy lady who wants to buy a half head of lettuce. The store manager signaled with his eyes that the woman had followed the young man and was standing directly behind him. Realizing she had heard the conversation with the manager he said,And this nice lady would like to buy ther other half. Later in the day the store manager said to the young worker, What you said earlier was ver good. Where did you learn to think so quickly? The young man said,I grew up in Grand Rapids which is known for good hockey teams and ugly women. The store managers face flushed before saying,My wife is from Grand Rapids. The young man then asked,Which hockey team was she on? May the prayer of the psalmist be our prayer. Set a guard over my mouth, and watch over the door of my lips. #woodswitandwisdom
