Setting Goals We are now over halfway through the first nine weeks of school. Many students are beginning to understand their own strengths and weaknesses within the classroom. Sitting down to set a goal is a great way for students to take ownership. Developing a goal action plan is a great way to encourage the meeting of a particular goal. We encourage sitting down with to write a goal action plan to not only improve academic success, but to also encourage empowerment through setting and reaching goals. Follow these steps for the best success: 1. Identify the goal: What is it you want to accomplish? How will this goal be measured? Write it out, so you do not forget. 2. Strategies: List ways you will work to meet this goal. These steps include strategies you will use each day to ensure the meeting of this goal. 3. Timeline: Give the goal a beginning and end date. When will you start and when do you want to accomplish this goal? 4. Problems & Preventions: What roadblocks might you face? By establishing these at the beginning it will help you come up with strategies to overcome these roadblocks. No excuses for reaching this goal! 5. Celebrate: It is important that when we reach goals we reward ourselves. A celebration can be as simple as going out for ice cream or getting a new book.
