Seven Eagle Scouts to Be Recognized Seven young men from Boy Scouts of America Troop 101, chartered to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glenville, N.Y., will be honored with Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle Scout. The Eagle Scouts include Austin R. Bringhurst and Daken J. Broadhead of Glenville; Tanner J. Fugal of Burnt Hills; Austin W. L. Jensen, Dallas F. Jensen, and Thomas J. Stevenson of Rexford; and Samuel R. Smith of Ballston Lake. The boys will receive their Eagle Scout awards at a ceremony on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. at the LDS Church at 52 Blue Barns Road, Rexford. The public is welcome to attend. To attain the rank of Eagle, Scouts must complete a rigorous program of several rank advancements, including 21 merit badges, leadership responsibility, and organizing and carrying out a significant community service project that includes leading other volunteers. Eagle service projects from this group included: building footbridges for an elementary school nature walk, painting and repairing playground equipment, organizing a charity 5K run, clearing church land for a new structure, creating and restoring hiking trails, and training volunteers to enter thousands of names from legal records for online access to genealogists. In 2013, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints celebrated its 100th year as the first national chartered organization with the Boy Scouts of America, founded in 1910. Locally, the Glenville and Schenectady congregations of the Church have continuously sponsored Boy Scout Troop 101 for 58 years, since February 1956.
