Seven months ago I started I am not voting for Susana Martinez as a way to vent my frustrations with the Governors office. It turned into something more than. We still had our venting, but it also become a place to educate, share, and search for a better way. Gary King for New Mexico. You had good intentions, you really did. But, if you chose to run again, you need to make your presence known! I commend you for not going negative and I will stand by that, but that doesnt mean you fade in the process. But know that your message was hear by me and those that really supported you. To me, you did become more than anyone but Susana. I may have been naive to think that issues were more important than money. This election proved me wrong. I found myself crying last night, crying for this state. What happened last night is an embarrassment. An embarrassment for the citizens who gave a damn and wanted to make a change and those who didnt even care to educate themselves on the candidates running. But I just cant blame one party. WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE for last night outcome - regardless of party. We, as a VOTING party, have become numb to what has happened to this valued system. Weve allowed staying home and not voting an acceptable way to display our civil rights. Weve accepted that the status quo is now to just believe what an ad is telling us. Weve come accustomed to politicians being evil - thats just the way it is. Thats crap. WE dont give two shites about our state - if we did, we would not have let it get this far. WE are the ones who put these people into offices. WE are the ones who dont call or visit that office every morning and remind our government what WE expect from them. WE the people - remember? I watched Martinezs speech this morning. Is it funny for me that I hear cha-ching every time she speaks? No, I cant go that route, You see, Martinez did what she needed to do to win - plain and simple. Money. Cindy Lauper was right. Money changes everything. It gives you power. That is what Susana Martinez wanted. Now that she is truly more in the spotlight AS A GOVERNOR - not the first Hispanic governor or the first woman governor - A GOVERNOR - a governor of a state that is last in nearly every meaningful statistical category - I WILL EXPECT HER TO DO HER JOB THIS TIME AROUND. She said things in her speech that made me think: Tonight I stand here tonight humbled by your confidence and graceful for your trust. Thank you, New Mexico for giving me the opportunity to continue to be your Governor. I stood at a podium like this four years and made some promises to you. I promised that we would do things differently. I promised that we would have the courage to take on the status quo. I made promises to listen and lead. Promises to chart a different and better course for New Mexico. We have a lot of work to do, but weve we made important progress and I hope that tonight results speak for themselves. Promises made and promises kept. And I hope they send a really strong message that we want leaders who chose reform and not the status quo. Leaders who chose to work across party lines and not point fingers. Leaders who stay focused in creating jobs and improving our education. Read that statement. Did she do any of the things listed? I will say that she did one thing. She promised that she would do things differently - she has done just that. She also said It important that everyone that believed in New Mexico voted. Did they? Did everyone who BELIEVED in New Mexico vote? Hmm. So, this a start of a new day - Day 1 of 1460 days. I have never been a political person before, but as a VOTER, Im going to do what should have happen four year ago and that is be a citizen. If I see something wrong, I will make a real effort to change it. I will contact the Governors office and let them know, Im watching. These past seven months has been a real eye opener for me. Theres no turning back now. I cant forget what I saw - nor do I want to. What about you? Will you spend this first day blaming Democrats or blaming Republicans or making a difference? The CHOICE is up to you.
