Seven residents of a Lake City condo building were taken to a local hospital Wednesday evening after exposure to high levels of carbon monoxide. The initial call came in about 4:45 p.m. A couple came home to the six-unit building in the 13700 block of 35th Avenue Northeast and smelled car exhaust, according to Seattle Fire Department reports. They determined it came from a particular garage. At that unit, they found a pair of unconscious men. A responding police officer pulled one man out and firefighters removed the second man, reports say. Medics performed CPR on the men in the middle of the street. They were later taken to Virginia Mason Hospital & Medical Center in critical condition. The couple who discovered the men and the responding police officer were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. Residents evacuated the building while firefighters ventilated it. They measured high levels of carbon monoxide in the building, according to the fire department. Two other couples who evacuated the building were also taken to the hospital as a precaution. The building is now clear for residents to re-enter. Investigators are working to determine the source of the carbon monoxide.
