Seventy years ago the US 82nd And 101st Airborne Divisions were still attached to the British 2nd Army in Holland, facing the Germans in the area known as the Island north of Nijmegen in the aftermath of Operation Market Garden. The lines were static but the fighting went on. Dad wrote this letter to Mom on 24 October 1944: Oct 24, 1944 Dearest Jo, Tonight presents the opportunity to listen to some very good music – courtesy Radio Berlin.
