Several Prosecuted for Rape, Murder in Bong County The Government of Liberia has won all three criminal cases tried during the August A.D 2014 term of court at the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court in Gbarnga, Bong County. The court presided over by Judge A. Blamo Dixon tried and convicted defendant Sheick Kanneh for rape and sentenced him on September 16 to ten years in jail, while Otis Geh was on September 10, 2014 convicted for murder and sentenced to 12 years in jail. According to court records, the latest victory was scored on Tuesday October 7, when Bong County Attorney, C. Flomo Wennah as state prosecutor, defeated Public Defenders representing the legal interest of Defendant Perry Mulbah. Defendant Mulbah was sentenced on Tuesday to 12 years in prison following the handing down of a unanimous guilty verdict by empanelled jurors for murdering Jenata Kpana, his wife, on July 25, 2014 in Lawward Town in Suakoko District, Bong County. Attorney Wennah told the Liberia News Agency Saturday that the victory obtained in the August term comes as no surprise as his prosecuting team has won 75% of all cases since taking up assignment three years ago. He has meanwhile disclosed the indictment of six new criminal cases during the August term which, he said, are among other criminal cases left on the courts docket. In a related development, the Gbarnga Magisterial court has released ten inmates from further detention. The decision was part of effort to decongest the Gbarnga Central Prison in the wake of the deadly Ebola outbreak in the county. Recently, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia cautioned judges to be discretional in sentencing those convicted, considering the raging Ebola scourge in the country in order to contain the overwhelming congestion of inmates at the various prison compounds in the country.
