Several blood disorders such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) have been linked to a mutation in the DNA methyl transferase. A research group in Bulgaria has developed a new bead-based suspension assay to detect the mutation in a fast, and accurate manner. The target is a single mis-sense mutation that is hard to isolate without prolonged costly analysis. The researchers used Sequencher DNA analysis software to assemble the amplicons from the sample subjects DNA. From there they used specially labeled probes coupled with the charged bead suspension to isolate the target DNA.
