Several days ago someone forwarded an article to me. In their comments they urged me to sign a petition to “outlaw transgender conversion therapy.” As I read the article my heart broke. It detailed the recent suicide of a young man (16) who had battled with his gender identity since he was 4. On December 28th he walked in front of a semi-truck in order to end his suffering. The article further detailed his struggles from his own perspective. This young man was being raised in a Christian home. As such his mother was unwilling to acknowledge him as a girl or assist him with gender reassignment therapy. Furthermore she continued to take him to church, which apparently served to rack him with guilt and shame. According to the article it is because his mother refused to succumb to his demands that he ended his life. She was vilified as both judgmental and uncaring. The purpose of this article was to urge people into action by signing a petition to end “transgender conversion therapy” which despite the misleading name, serves to dissuade gender reassignment surgery. The entire series of events is tragic and my heart goes out to this family. Yet the reason that I am writing about this publicly and sharing the link below is clear attacks directed towards a mother who simply stuck with her convictions based on Biblical truth. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last time that I quote Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” According to the warped belief systems of this nation it is evil to stand firm on Biblical conviction and good to be open minded and permissive. This dynamic is becoming more prevalent, not less. It is being asserted with more confidence and veracity and with greater animosity towards the side which remains grounded in absolute truth. It is truly sad that this young man chose to end his life yet the blame for what occurred is misplaced. It is the enemy which caused this destruction and it his mother who loved him enough to keep speaking the truth in love and encouraging him to seek God for his healing. Are you ready to make a stand even when it is unpopular? Are you prepared to be called evil for Christ’s namesake?
