Several folks have asked for a definition of conjunctive water use. Read this illustrated 4-page UC extension pamphlet for that purpose. cetehama.ucdavis.edu/files/20596.pdf Groundwater banking is a form of conjunctive water use that requires an emptied aquifer for underground reservoir operation. GW banking is almost inevitable in severely over drafted aquifers that have lost their connection to streams and ecosystems (such as in the rapidly subsiding San Joaquin Valley), but in Butte and Tehama foothills the connection is intact and the prospects for premature conjunctive use look good to water privateers and bad for streams, existing wells and valley oaks.
