Several inches of snow in Kupwara ,electricity services remained paralyzed Wasim Majnoon Mir Kupwara:,The season’s Fourth snowfall which Kashmir received late Sunday night plunged most parts of the Valley into darkness for hours at a stretch, setting off a barrage of troubles. Although the snowfall experienced was light-moderate in nature, the electricity supply was withdrawn from almost the entire district within the first hour of the snowfall. Following accumulation of several inches of snow in Kupwara, and Handwara Towns of North Kashmir, normal life in main towns as well as the far-off villages like Chokibal ,Kralpora ,Lolab ,Hyhuma and other villages was brought to a complete halt as electricity services remained paralyzed . The power scenario is even grimmer in Handwara town and its adjoining villages where power supply has remained cut off for a few days now. Although people living in non-metered areas are also paying the monthly tariff of Rs 340 plus per month, adequate electricity supply remains a distant dream for many. “People are suffering a lot and the authorities are not bothered. In towns, load-shedding takes place after every hour, and the main power supply voltage is so low that even electric bulbs don’t work, forget about the heating gadgets,” Imtiyaz Ahmad, a Handwara resident, said.
