Several people have asked about Emilys knee so here is the scoop: Emily will have surgery on Wednesday, August 6, to repair a torn meniscus. She injured her knee back in December during basketball but there was no visible tear at that time (MRI has been seen by two doctors). She recovered from that injury after rest and physical therapy. She went on to finish the basketball season, did some volleyball tournaments and then some basketball camps this summer. Something happened in the last month that has caused her to have constant swellling, pain and limited use of that knee. A second MRI shows that now there is a tear. (We are not sure exactly when the tear happened.) If they are able to stitch the tear during the surgery, her recovery time will be approximately four months. If they are not able to stitch it, they will cut out the bad part of the meniscus. The recovery for that is 6-8 weeks. However, if they cut instead of stitch she will have problems later on because she will be missing part of the meniscus. We are praying for the possibility of the stitching so she will have better quality of life later even though it means a longer recovery time now. She will definitely miss all of her 11th grade volleyball season. Basketball season will hinge on her recovery. Thank you to everyone that has asked, shown concern and prayed for her over this knee injury. It is so great to know we have a church family, sports family and community that is genuinely concerned and is praying for her.
