Several posts now have been dominating the forum in regard to what specific round of ammunition is allowed to be shot in the Ruger Mini-14. The main area of confusion continually revolves around the question, Can my Mini-14 shoot 5.56 NATO rounds? or Certain models can only shoot .223 Remington since its marked .223 Cal on the receiver According to Sturm, Ruger & Co., the ONLY company that produces the Mini-14, both .223 Remington AND 5.56 NATO can be shot through a mini-14, EXCEPT the Target model. This information is available on your Ruger Mini-14s owner manual, Rugers online version of the owners manual, the FAQ section on their website and for the newer versions of available Mini-14 available for sale on ruger. I believe since they designed, developed, tested, manufactured and sell these rifles with that statement of fact, it is not open for debate or question if the Mini-14 can shoot either cartridge. You as the owner of a Mini-14 can make a decision not to shoot either the .223 Remington or the 5.56 x 45 NATO, or you can choose to shoot both. Its your choice, your rifle. Just dont propagate the myth that the Mini-14 can not shoot either. It goes against what the manufacturer says is allowable and safe to use. Again, this applies to all Mini-14s EXCEPT for the Target model. This is the contact information if you wish to call or write to Ruger Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc.
