Several separatist leaders Saturday strongly condemned the killing of four persons by paramilitary CRPF in south Kashmir’s Shopian district. They also condemned the firing at a private car by CRPF personnel near Budshah Chowk, which left a civilian critically injured. The Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while calling the incidents as “state sponsored terrorism” called for Kashmir Bandh on September 8 (Sunday). Mirwaiz asked the visiting dignitaries, ambassadors and diplomats of various countries, who are in Srinagar, to visit the bereaved families in Shopian to get the real feel of ‘Ehsaas-e- Kashmir’. Demanding an impartial probe into these incidents, Mirwaiz has appealed to the international community and international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the bloodshed in Kashmir and exert pressure on New Delhi to put an immediate halt to these human rights ‘abuses’ and take measures for resolving Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of its people. Mirwaiz expressed sympathies with the families of youth and prayed for the speedy recovery of injured. Expressing strong anger and anguish over, what he said, the outrageous acts by the armed forces, veteran separatist leader and chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani has called for complete shutdown on Sunday to protest the Shopian and Budshah Chowk incidents. “Killings of four innocent civilians by the forces at a time when Zubin Metha’s concert was going on at Shalimar garden should serve as an eye- opener for diplomats of various countries who were present in the function about the ground situation in Kashmir,” Geelani said, terming the killings as “worst demonstration of state terrorism’. He expressed solidarity with the families of those killed and prayed for the fast recovery of injured. “This concert (Zubin Mehta’s) was organized to hoodwink the international community about the real aspirations of Kashmiris and ground situation here. It is the duty of international community to take note of unabated human rights violations in Kashmir and play its role in resolution of Kashmir dispute according to UN resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiris,” Geelani said. “I also congratulate the organizers of parallel concert Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir for highlighting the ground realities in Kashmir,” he said. He termed the youth as custodians of the ongoing movement and asked them to maintain discipline. “They should have patience and be resilient. Suppressive tactics should not deter their resolve to take the movement to its logical conclusion,” he added. Denouncing these incidents, the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik appealed to the people of Jammu Kashmir to observe complete shutdown against these massacres on September 8, Sunday. “Today New Delhi and its forces once again proved that they have no respect for the lives of innocent Kashmiris. Firing discriminately on motor-cycle riders in Shopian and car rider in Srinagar and killing and injuring many innocent Kashmiris clearly shows that New Delhi and its forces in their frustration have resorted to barbaric unilateral state terrorism. They have come to know that despite their oppression, suppression, bribing and coercion, torture, killings and arrests, and cosmetic measures to hoodwink the international opinion, they have not been able to contain or finish the struggle for freedom. This has angered the government of India and its puppets who have now resorted to spree of killings and massacres. If the world keeps its criminal silence over these acts of state terrorism, Kashmiris will be compelled to think that world also supports these killings and actually listens to only violence and violent means.” Yasin Malik prayed for the killed youth and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved. He also prayed for early recovery of injured. The executive committee of High Court Bar Association (HCBA), at meeting held here today with its president Mian Abdul Qayoom in chair, strongly condemned the Shopian killings. The Bar Association also condemned the caging of people and holding of musical concert by Zubin Mehta at Srinagar, appealing to the International community to come forward and discharge their obligation of compelling New Delhi to give the Right of Self-determination to the people of Kashmir. “The Bar Association also requests the right thinking people of India to stop its government from organizing musical concerts in the valley of Kashmir and fulfill its promise, made both inside and outside the Parliament to give the Right of Self-determination to the people of J&K,” said a spokesman of the Bar in a statement today. Strongly condemning the killings, senior Hurriyat Conference (M) leader and Jammu Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM) chairman Zaffar Akbar Bhat, who was placed under house arrest, said the world community and international media should acknowledge that Kashmiris are “never safe under Indian control.” Zaffar urged people to observe complete strike on Sunday against, what he said, ‘the state terrorism’ in Shopian. He has expressed solidarity with the families of killed youth and prayed for the speedy recovery of injured. Strongly condemning, what he called, the cold- blooded murder of four persons at Shopian, the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (H) chairman Javid Ahmad Mir supported the Hurriyat (M) shutdown call for Sunday. The chairman of Jammu and Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP), Er Hilal Ahmad War, while condemning these incidents, has urged the people of Kashmir to observe complete shutdown on Sunday, September 8, against the ruthless killings. Condemning the incidents, the Jammu Kashmir Peoples’ League chairman Mukhtar Ahmad Waza alleged that the killing of innocent people has become hobby of armed forces in Jammu Kashmir.
