Several weeks ago we received several complaints from parents that DOE had cut funds for the Transitional Autism Program (TAP) at I.S. 24. This highly successful program helps intermediate school students with Autism Spectrum Disorders prepare for the transition to high school. My office and BP Oddos initially reached out to DOE on September 2nd and have been advocating for the funding to be restored. We were advised yesterday that the DOE, after meeting with the Principal, determined that the school was entitled to additional funds for register growth. This means that IS 24 will is currently making adjustments to reopen the two TAP classes. Thanks to Deputy Chancellor Grimm and DOE officials for making the fix and for Principal Santamaria for making sure the needs of his kids came first.
