Several years ago, Benten started asking us if we could get a dog. She thought a Shih Tzu would be perfect, as she liked small dogs and was afraid of large dogs. Fast forward to present day, we have Ella, a runt Sheep Dog (45lbs), and Betty, a Great White Pyrenees foster dog (a 130lbs). We were visiting Rob Martin and Julie Boutilier-Martin, who have Blue, a Beagle (25 lbs), and Greta, our former foster and a Springer Spaniel (35lbs). Benten was lying on the floor as the dogs jumped and played and rolled around her - laughing! Un-phased, at ease and completely confident. I absolutely LOVE what this process has helped her to experience, to develop an awareness and confidence with so many dogs. Its been pretty cool to observe and I think kids and dogs can be a beautiful combination.
