Several years ago, I was invited to come to San Diego. My audience was the homeless of the City! These precious people came for a warm meal and they had to listen to me speak! As I shared my testimony, I saw tears rolling down most of the faces in the audience. We had a prayer line afterwards. Such strong hugs. Almost each one of them thanked me and whispered the function in their life which landed them on the streets! I found my heart so overwhelmed with a sense of sorrow and helplessness! Yet, I realized that God had allowed me to bring a message of hope and a conviction that God was there with them! Afterwards, one of the men rose up and said they should take an offering for me! I sat with my head bowed humbled! What could they give? I did not want to take their last pennies, but I knew I would take away their blessing by protesting. During the fellowship time, the pastor of this group came up to me and handed my a ziplock bag full of coins and a few dollar bills! These men gathered around and asked me to count it so I unzipped the bag and let it spill out on a table. $52.73 cents! I could not help it! I just started crying! This represented how many hours of panhandling, their last pennies, last meal for awhile? I asked if I could donate this to the ministry and all piped up, Nooooo--we want to bless you! I still have that ziplock with the coins in my drawer and when I need a reminder to be generous even with my last dollar, there it is!!!! And whoever gives one of these little ones a cup of water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means loses his reward!---it is more blessed to give---one who gives freely, yet grows all the richer---give and it will be given back to you, pressed down, shaken together, running over---give as you have been instructed by the Lord, not reluctantly or compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver! I was taught a lesson that night in a part of San Diego which I had never gone to before, that the least is the greatest in Gods eyes and they have the attitude to share out of a heart of gratitude!
