Several years ago just before my retirement we decided one Christmas that we needed to buy a new tree, so we went looking around until we found one that suited us.. I complain each year about assembling that tree because it takes a long while to do the job and no one ever seems to want to help me. I have developed a system of doing the work over the years and once the tree is up I am proud of my work that was involved. The tree is flocked and each year there is a mess to sweep up afterwards. I choose the spot where it will stand and build the tree there. I have found that even though it takes spreading out every branch and placing them in order of the color coded system the end result is satisfying to the eye. I always start with playing Christmas music to set my mood then as I work and see the tree taking shape I feel happy with all my effort. Betty and I will take the decorations out and place them on the tree,lights and ornaments we have saved all of our married life and some hold special memories for us. Once they are all hung on the tree and the lights are on we sit down to enjoy its beauty and view all our work completed on it. The children and the Grand kids faces brighten when they see the big tree and the presents waiting for Christmas day to arrive. I may fuss a bit but when it is all said and done I may enjoy that tree more than anyone else. When we take it down I will think to myself that it was another wonderful year I guess. Traditions in our family are focused around the Holidays and family being together. Both Betty and I share those traditions from our families passed down generation to generation with love.I cant help but think back and remember those past Christmas days and the joy and love that was shared back even to my childhood. Wonderful loving times.
