Several years ago, there was a person at my work I was not getting along with very well. She competed with me & gossiped behind my back..usual office politics that many of us have had to deal with at one time or another. I used to pray about this a lot, how to deal with this, how do I keep my concentration on my own job, my own self & not get pulled into the negative cycle, the drama, yet still defend myself from the gossip. I remember my ex boyfriend telling me that my concern about this situation means I am reacting with my ego. At first I was confused...I thought she is the one competing with me, the one with the ego problem. I just want to do my job. Well, it took me awhile, but I came to realise that it was my Ego that caused me to even notice her little game. If I pulled out of myself & did not react with Ego, then her game would have fizzled out. But by even reacting, by getting hurt by it, I was letting my ego get involved. I learned to ignore..pletely ignore the games & they slowly stopped. My ego did not respond anymore to her. This was a great lesson for me. Also, at the time, I thought to myself.. what would Jesus or Buddha do in this situation of mine? Do you know what my first reaction to this question was? hahahaha! MY first reaction was They would NOT work there, period!!!! Neither one of them would EVER stay in that negative surroundings...they would simply leave. So, my conclusion is.. yes, we each have lessons to learn, obstacles to overcome, & sometimes we need to face our battles head on. But, there is a time & a place for everything. There are times in our lives when we simply must pull out...leave, start over again. Do not keep on swimming upstream. Know when to hold em...know when to fold em.
