Several years back a building much loved by the indigenous - TopicsExpress

Several years back a building much loved by the indigenous Crossroads ministry at Redfern was sold, with considerable disagreement about the wisdom of the decisions and sadness about process. At the time, considerable capital (about $1M I believe) was added to the SAIPMC fund, which is the Anglican committee for indigenous ministries in our Diocese, with a majority membership of indigenous people. The income from this helps fund indigenous ministries. However as such, it is clearly totally insufficient to enable that committee ever to purchase one ministry centre, let alone with a pastors residence, for an indigenous ministry in Redfern, let alone in the other centres where indigenous people are involved in Anglican-linked ministries such as Nowra and Macarthur and Mr Druitt. And I know the current Living Waters indigenous church in Redfern really needs a good venue. I have two questions: (i) What process lessons did we learn from the sadness that impacted many from the sale of that property? (ii) What can we do to raise the funds to endow Anglican indigenous ministries with places of their own that they can truly control for the good of the gospel among their peoples? Is there a good way forward to find here outside or within normal diocesan processes? I am hoping for an honest conversation in the spirit of Ephesians 4:3 - Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
