Several years back a group of terrorists attacked two hotels in Mumbai. They randomly opened fire on the people inside and it quickly became a bloody scene with many innocent lives being taken. Later, an Indian man was discovered alive among the pile of dead bodies of those who had tried to take cover under a table. He was asked why the terrorists didnt just shoot him as they walked by? He answered “I was so covered in someone elses blood that they thought it was mine and left me for dead.” Quite possibly without even knowing it this man stated the Gospel in one sentence. Jesus Christ makes dead people alive by covering them with His blood. He takes our worst so that we can have his best. Yet we always have the choice to either accept him or reject him. There is no neutral position when it comes to Christ. As C.S. Lewis said he has not left that option open to us and he didnt intend to. There is no one like him in all of history. The birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is THE most significant event from the beginning of time. It is why believers in Christ have a peace and inner joy that cannot be explained by a world that is in constant chaos. This past week Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson irritated some Christians with a tweet on Christmas which said, “On this day long ago, a child was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton b. Dec 25, 1642.” It seems Tyson has made his choice on who he believes the person of Jesus is. However, that doesnt change the truth about who Jesus actually is. It also doesnt change the fact that some day Neil deGrasse Tyson will come face to face with Christ and will have to “give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.” (1 Peter 4:5) So will you and so will I. The question hasnt changed in the last 2,000 years. Jesus asked his disciples, “But what about you, who do you say I am?” (Luke 9: 20) And hes asking you the very same question today. What is your answer? Can you say along with the Apostle Peter: “You are the Messiah sent from God.” Or dont you believe that? Maybe youre just indifferent. You should know this, your indifference does not go unnoticed by God... it is taken as if you dont believe. Ignoring truth is a very dangerous thing. Dont you owe it to yourself to look into the things that angels wish they knew? (1 Peter 1: 12) Today, if you hear Gods call do not harden your heart. I cannot tell how He will win the nations, How He will claim His earthly heritage, How satisfy the needs and aspirations Of east and west, of sinner and of sage. But this I know, all flesh shall see His glory, And He shall reap the harvest He has sown, And some glad day His sun shall shine in splendor When He the Savior, Savior of the world, is known
