Severe Weather Warning IDV28000 Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall for people in the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West and Central forecast districts Issued at 4:47 am EDT on Tuesday 13 January 2015. Weather Situation A low pressure system southeast of Kangaroo Island, will continue to deepen and move eastwards to be near Warrnambool by this evening while an associated surface trough moves across western and into central Victoria. The low will move away to the southeast of Tasmania early Wednesday morning. Heavy rain and thunderstorms which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast for parts of the Mallee, Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West and Central forecast districts on Tuesday. Heavy rainfall is likely to develop over western districts during the morning and extend into central districts by midday then contracting to the northeast during the afternoon before easing by the evening. The SES advises that rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas may contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks. People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslide and debris across roads. Recent fire affected areas include: Grampians/Wimmera - the MacKenzie River Grampians/South West - the lower Mt William Creek The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 11:00 am EDT Tuesday. This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300-659-217*. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.
