#Severe #Weather Warning *Norfolk Island* - Damaging Surf #NSWStorms #Storms #NSWWeather Issued at 9:07 am EST on Tuesday 15 July 2014. Weather Situation A low pressure system lies to the north of New Zealand, while a strong high is centred east of Bass Strait. Vigorous winds and large seas are being generated between these systems, and will continue to affect Norfolk Island this morning although gradually easing. Damaging surf conditions are forecast for this morning and early afternoon with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone. This has potential to produce beach erosion on south to southwesterly facing areas. Surf conditions are also expected to be hazardous for activities such as swimming, surfing and rockfishing. The Norfolk Island Police advise you: * Stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas. For emergency help, ring the Norfolk Island Police on 977. The next warning will be issued by 05:00Pm [EST] Tuesday 15 July.
