Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for all Victorian forecast districts on Monday. Weather Situation A rapidly moving cold front will reach the western Victoria border late this afternoon then progress eastward to reach central districts later this evening and eastern districts early Tuesday morning. An associated low pressure system will deepen rapidly as it passes the west coast of Tasmania tonight. DAMAGING WINDS are forecast this afternoon and evening over western and central districts with average speeds increasing to 50 to 70 km/h and peak gusts reaching 100 km/h, especially over elevated areas and with the cold frontal passage. These winds will extend to Alpine parts of the east from this evening until early Tuesday morning. Following the passage of the cold front westerly winds of a similar strength will persist about the western, central and Gippsland coast for several hours, easing along the west coast later tonight and along the Central and Gippsland coasts by dawn on Tuesday. The strongest gust so far has been 111 km/hr at Mt William early this afternoon. A wind gust of 80 km/hr was recorded at Avalon Airport at 3pm. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
