Severe frosts in Ashgabat In late January and early February severe frosts set in in Turkmenistan. In the country’s northern provinces the temperature dropped down to -20 whereas in Ashgabat it reached to -15C. Public utilities employees in Ashgabat are trying to shovel snow from streets and pavements. House administration staff request that inhabitants do not to switch off water faucets for the night. The residents obey the recommendations and leave faucets in bathrooms and kitchens open. Cases are recorded when water supply pipes got frozen and cracked in residential houses as they are not always isolated. As a rule, pipes with running water do not get frozen. For this reason the municipal services fail to keep water supply system in order and are urged to take emergency measures by asking Ashgabat inhabitants to pour water continuously. It is of no significance now how much drinking water is wasted into sewerage. It is more important than pipes do not crack.
