Shades of Career Pathways Institute in Grand Island: A new task - TopicsExpress

Shades of Career Pathways Institute in Grand Island: A new task force report details a bold plan to reinvent Benson High — the Omaha Public Schools’ smallest high school — by turning it into a career academy where students receive job training, college credit and classes tailored to specific career fields. On this particular issue, Im pretty biased. I think that if the state of Nebraska was really progressive in this area, it would create a system where students in every school district in the state would at least have access to a career pathways program. It is important that Nebraska have lots of students go to in-state four-year colleges and universities. But the vast majority of students who do not go to a four-year school should be get at least some post-secondary education in a technical field. A high school career pathways program is a great incentive to choose that course of action. Right now, Grand Island, Kearney, Lincoln and now, perhaps Omaha, have all stepped out individually to provide this opportunity to high school students.
