Shadowside Sneak Peek Zachary Westland can see a side of reality most people are oblivious to, but this doesnt make his life easy. Drawn instinctively to the echoes of terrible events imprinted on the Shadowside, he struggles with his sense of duty to right the wrongs all too often overlooked by the flesh-and-blood world. Heres another little snippet from the current book: ---------------------------------------- I face-planted right into the replay of a death. Actually, a pair of deaths layered one on top of the other, so intertwined, they were difficult to distinguish. Two figures – and then three, and then four – strove with one another just inside the front entrance to the house. They flickered like old-time filmstrips, their colors bled to grey and their features indistinct. Sometimes spirits lingered on the Shadowside. But these weren’t ghosts, they were impressions. Echoes of trauma imprinted on the space. The collision of imagery made it hard to pick apart the exact sequence of events. It was like two projectors had been aimed at one screen and left to play on top of one another. Even then, the action wasn’t linear. It stuttered and skipped ahead, as only the most intense moments of conflict were clearly imprinted on the space. I moved to the furthest edge of the imprint, trying to make sense of what I could perceive. I only had to wait for the action to blink back to the beginning – echoes like this played on infinite loop and would repeat their grim recording until the emotional residue that had created them finally wore away. That could take decades – centuries, even. I watched, tasting the stultifying play of emotions that surged within the imprint – pain and rage and a single-minded flavor of hate. -------------------------------------------
