Shakespeare 2015! For the last couple of years a small group of us have got together annually for a day of Shakespeare plays. 2013 saw us taking in Henry VI parts 1-3 at the Globe, while last summer we went to see Henry IV parts 1&2 in Stratford-upon-Avon. Carrying on the tradition, Ive started looking over the calendars for the summer of 2015. There are no big trilogies or two-parters playing this year, so to make the most of our day out we have two options. - The first option is to go to Stratford-upon-Avon to watch a pair of unrelated plays by the RSC. The specific productions we see will depend on the date we pick, but we will likely see either Othello or The Merchant of Venice in addition to a play by one of Shakespeares contemporaries - probably Volpone or The Jew of Malta. - Option two is a Globe production in London. King John and Richard II are both playing at different points throughout the year (from 1st of June and 11th of July respectively). Richard II might be appropriate for those of us who have attended the last two years, as its the prequel to Henry IV. Since wed only be seeing one play however, we could make the most of our day by going to one of the dates which features a pre-show scene-setting introduction from scholars and actors, or a post-show Q&A with the actors and creative team. The Globe option will likely be a good deal cheaper - tickets are £5 per head. Stratford-upon-Avon is amazing, but more expensive. It came to £95 a head last year. For the last two years weve managed free accommodation. No promises, but Ill try and arrange that again! Either way itll be a great fun day. Well take in whichever town were in and make the most of the time. If we chose the London option Ill make sure to lay on some sort of tour or entertainment. Please let me know if youre interested!
