Shakib loses number 1 all rounder position Shakib Al Hasn had overtaken Jacques Kallis last month to regain his number 1 position in Test all rounders’ rankings. However, the crown didn’t last longer than 3 weeks and India’s Ravichandan Ashwin takes over Shakib to push Shakib to number 2 in the rankings. This is mainly due to the excellent performance by Ashwin with bot the bat and ball against West Indies at Kolkata. Ashwin scored a brilliant hundred to rescue India after a batting collapse in the fist innings of the first Test match. He scored 124, which was the highest score of his Test career. The off spinner also picked up 5 wickets for 98 runs to get to the number 1 position for the first time in his career. Injuries and fever has been a problem for Shakib Al Hasan. He has been available for very few ocassions for the national side which has contributed to his downfall. Bangladesh get to play limited amount of Test matches in a calender year itself, and Shakib’s injuries have not helped the course. The next time Shakib will get a chance to regain his position will be against Sri Lanka, when Bangladesh will play a full series at home.
