Shakti Samant was one of the versatile film makers who started as a maker of thrillers starting with the Ashok Kumar starrer Inspector produced by the house of Nadiadwalas.He then set up his own banner with Howrah Bridge.The writer Ranjan Bose got his break with this film.Vrajendra Gaur was the dialogue writer.Then he made thrillers with Shammi Kapoor-China Town and Singapore.The latter was made for producer F C MEHRA.He made Jaali Note with Dev Anand and Madhubala in the thriller genere.Then he made Insaan Jaag Utha with Sunil Dutt and Madhubala.This film was not a thriller.When color came he made musical romances with doses of comedy and action in the climax.The Manoj Kumar -Sharmila Tagore starrer Sawan ki Ghata and the Shammi Kapoor-Sharmila Tagore starrrers Kashmir ki Kali and An Evening in Paris belonged to this genere.The highlight of all the three films was the music.The first two films had music by O P Nayyar and the third by Shanker Jaikishen.
