"Shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand" - Matthew 7:26 Napolean once said this: "A man is not a man without God. I saw men without God in the reign of terror in 1793. One does not govern such men; he shoots them down." He recognized the degradation that happens when God is erased from the picture and life of men and women. G.K. Chesterton once said: "It is often supposed that when people stop believing in God, they believe in nothing. Alas, it is worse than that. When they stop believing in God, they believe in anything." When this happens, there is no firm foundation of truth; therefore, anything goes. It is like standing on shifting sand. There is nothing to stand on. It is slippery, changeable and disastrous. Dostoevski wrote, "If God does not exist, everything is permissible." God demands character, moral purity, love, rightness and kindness. If He is put out of the picture, the very opposite of those things will take over; immorality, hate, wrong, unkindness, lack of character, low living, fear and hopelessness. To be an atheist or someone who does not bring God into His rightful position is a step down for that person. It takes away the creativity that could be his. The potential that he could reach is squashed by unbelief. He can only go so far and then evil will reach its tenacles around his life and mind, and seek to squeeze out the nectar of peace and the potential of good. Calvin Coolidge once said: "It is hard to see how a great man can be an atheist. Doubters do not achieve. Skeptics do not contribute. Cynics do not create." It is time for people to wake up and put God back into the schools, homes, conversations, lifestyles and world. Choose today to lift Him up and follow Him, and you will win in the struggle of life. For God is, whether you believe in Him or not. - Joy Haney
