Sham Lal Sharma urges people to elect maximum Congress candidates for strong, vibrant Jammu AKHNOOR, October 30 – Reiterating his commitment to serve the people of Jammu region with pride and without compromising the dignity of dugger land, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has said that people of Jammu region must show a united face to get their equal share in the development. He also urged the likeminded political parties to rise above the petty political gains and fight for the equality of the people of the region which have suffered step motherly treatment since independence. Underlining the role of the Congress party in the history of Jammu and Kashmir, the Minister said that as and when the party was in the helm of affairs, the State got equal treatment in all fields and progressed tremendously. But, during the tenures of other parties, the Jammu region remained victim of mal-treatment and discrimination in all fronts. The people of this region continued to suffer for want of basic facilities like education, power, road connectivity, medicare, as focus of successive governments remained in the Kashmir valley. But, now the trend has been changed and no such discrimination will be allowed in future. For all this, the people of the region have to be vigilant and develop a strong and visionary leadership who can safeguard their interests in the Governments, said Mr. Sham. Addressing a series of election meetings in Akhnoor constituency, the Minister said that during the current tenure of the Government, he fought for the cause of Jammu people till last moments. “People are well aware that I single handedly fought for the regularization of daily rated workers and ultimately fell prey to the conspiracy of some of the NC Ministers who sabotaged the issue and compelled me to resign from the ministry”. He asked the people to elect maximum candidates from the Congress party so that it can form the government independently for making Jammu more vibrant and strong. He said it is only Congress which can guard the honor of the people of Jammu as it has proved in rest of the country where it has ruled for over five decades. He said Congress party has a strong and secular foundation as its leaders have given numerous sacrifices for the unity and integrity of nation besides played pivotal role for achieving the independence. The party always promoted mutual brotherhood and worked hard for the up liftment of weaker sections of the society, thus the people must keep faith on the secular forces and defeat the nefarious design of the communal and divisive forces like Bhartya Janta Party, People’s Democratic Parties and National Conference, which play the politics of disintegrating the society in the name of regions, religions, castes as has been proved in the past. He asked the people to strengthen the hands of Congress party and support his candidature from the Akhnoor constituency. He promised to full-fill the unfinished tasks initiated during his tenure. At Akhnoor, the Minister paid rich tributes to late Master Krishan Lal Sharma on the occasion of his 12th death anniversary. He highlighted his contribution and said that Masterji remained associated with the cause of poor and down trodden people and till his last breath he worked for the poor and needy. His contribution will serve as source of inspiration for others, said the Minister. The election meetings were addressed at villages Gurah Balle-Da-Bagh, Sungal, Raja Chack, Pangyari and Akhnoor town. Several Sarpanchs, Panchs, prominent citizens and local Congress leaders accompanied the Minister.
