Shane age 5 living with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia…..I wish to meet Shane Long. Little Shane lives in Austria with his parents and loves soccer. Behind his house in Austria is a soccer training pitch and he watches the players being put through their paces every evening. When Shane was asked what would he wish for, he mentioned to his Irish Dad Stephen, that he would like to meet Shane Long as he had never met another person called Shane before and he is soccer mad! Make-A-Wish Austria asked us to help out, and we with the help of the FAI and Three (primary sponsor of the football team) made his wish come true. Shane went to the Aviva Stadium on Monday for Ireland’s last training session before the 2014 World Cup Qualifier match on Tuesday, met all the team and showed them some of his moves, but most of all, was thrilled when Shane Long came over and spoke to him. ‘Big’ Shane gave ‘little’ Shane his white soccer boots and little Shane gave him a teddy bear for his daughter! Robbie & Stephen gave him a VIP tour of the dressing room, and Sean St. Ledger tied his shoelaces! On Tuesday Shane not only went to see Republic of Ireland V Kazakhstan but he was one of the mascots on the night. He went home with goodies and great memories of a wonderful two days.
