Shannon Lucid was born in China in 1943 to missionary parents, she spent most of her life in Oklahoma. She graduated from Bethany High School and has earned three degrees for the University of Oklahoma. Lucid is a commercial, instrument, and multi-engine rated pilot. She became an astronaut in in 1979. She is the first woman to hold an international record for the most flight hours in orbit. She also holds the United States single-mission spaceflight endurance record on the Russian Space Station Mir. After completing that particular mission, she traveled 75.2 million miles in 188 days, four hours and 14 seconds. #okhistory #womenshistorymonth #space #NASA
