Shannon emailed--So...Thursday I had to see my leg guy to get my new knee and foot. I got my new socket about 2 weeks ago. At that time I talked with my leg guy and explained that I would really like to have an adjustable foot with the slit between my big toe and the next for sandals and flip flops. I wanted the adjustable heel for a specific reason as well. I have been a LAKA since 10/8/12. I had many complications and I am very happy and thankful that I came through it all and I am still alive. But due to some of the complications I have been unable to wear or use a prosthesis until October of 2013. The only shoes I can wear with my leg is my tennis shoes. So I am unable to wear my leg when I wear dress clothes. This is frustrating! I just am trying to find my new normal. Before this happened I wore heels a lot...I am not asking to do that again everyday but I would like to be able to wear dress shoes. Using a wheelchair is still very much part of my life. When I talked to my leg guy about getting this foot he assured and then reassured me that getting that foot would not be an issue. When I got there he begin to tell me about the knee which is a hydraulic knee and to be honest it looks just like the knee I had except this one does not lock therefore I will have to use a foot rest on my wheelchair. I had to ask about the foot and I could tell he had forgot and he stumbled all over his answer for about 5 or so seconds before he said my insurance would not cover it. I feel like if that was the case he would have called me before that day. I am really disappointed because now I feel I am in the same situation and will not be able to wear my leg right on. This leg guy came to see me while I was in the hospital and called often to check on me before I actually got my leg but I feel kind of left out in the dark a little about knowing what is what...what kind of leg and what kind of foot. OK...I have said all that to say this....does this sound right? How do I go about getting an adjustable foot even if I have to pay for it? I am not made of money...to be honest our money is tight but I would like to be able to wear my leg and dress shoes to job interviews...I feel like I already have enough hurdles to jump! Any suggestions...getting my leg guy right now get that foot for me is not an option. Thanks!
