The West London club have been chasing after the forward all summer and were excepted to come in with a final bid for the striker after the game at Old Trafford – which if nothing else emphasised that Chelsea were in dire need of a forward. Now it seems Mourinho is back to his best with mind games and has basically asked Rooney to request to leave if he wishes to do so. The Chelsea manager noted: "We have to speak but I think this club must be a very special club because in every club in the world when a player wants to leave they don’t support him, they give him a hard time,’ said the Blues boss. "So I think this is a real special club with real special fans and I think at this moment he [Rooney] might want to stay, and if he says that we will be the first to respect that. "If he doesn’t want to leave we need to know." Either way, one thing is clear; Chelsea simply have to bring in a striker before the end of the window and may have to turn to Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o should the Rooney bid fail.
