Shared by Monty Neill from Fair Testing Right now, watch the final chapter of the video about a great school: “A Year at Mission Hill School,” at ayearatmissionhill/. (Just 10 minutes.) This closing segment of the wonderful 10-part film includes a promise from Principal Ayla Gavins to not administer new “predictive” tests mandated by district as part of judging teachers, potentially putting her job on the line. (This year, MHS kept that promise – as did some other schools.) The chapter is primarily a celebration of the joy of rich, deep engaging learning in the company of others, children and staff. Graduates explain what they learned, as humans and students, teachers explain what it means to have the freedom to teach. The 10-part film as a whole explores how the school comes to life, including a section on authentic assessment (#9).
