Shared from CCBC Website : Honouring our Heroes! (08 July 2013) Residents are being encouraged to turn out and show their support for the brave men and women of the Royal Welsh when they march through Bargoed in September. The Royal Welsh will return to Caerphilly county borough on Saturday 28th September at 12 noon to parade through Bargoed town centre to mark the third year anniversary of the regiment receiving the Freedom of Caerphilly county borough. The event will also provide a fitting occasion to showcase some of the Bargoed regeneration works to visitors to the town. Cllr Harry Andrews, Leader of the Council said, "We are absolutely honoured to be welcoming the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh back to our county borough, and I would encourage as many residents as possible to turn out and show their support and appreciation to the regiment". Major Derek Adams, Assistant Regimental Secretary of The Royal Welsh, said, "It is always a huge honour and privilege for soldiers to be welcomed back to the Welsh villages, towns and cities that they hail from. These events are perfect opportunities for us to engage with the communities that have showed us so much support. In the three years since the Freedom of Caerphilly county borough was conferred on The Royal Welsh there was been an almost continuous commitment to operations and that commitment has not come without sacrifice." He continued, "When soldiers march through the streets and they see that support from the public they are humbled and very appreciative. We very much look forward to this event." The Freedom of Caerphilly county borough was conferred upon the Royal Welsh in September 2010. To mark the occasion, more than 150 Army personnel marched through Caerphilly and Blackwood town centres, cheered on by thousands of county borough residents.
