Take the 1 mile or 5-mile walking trails at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park, enjoying the natural world around you and learn more about the history of the Civil War and the battle that occurred here. Hiking is an excellent opportunity to begin the New Year by rejuvenating and connecting with the outdoors and a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and welcome the New Year with friends and family. First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative at State Parks all across the country to promote healthy living and getting outside in parks. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, wear sturdy comfortable walking shoes, and bring water. Admission: Free - Note, the park buildings are closed for the holiday and hikes are not staff-led, but you are welcome to hike on your own on the park’s one-mile walking trail or along a five-mile driving trail. Both are marked and have information panels along the way.
