Shared from One Moms Battle: New Jersey: Sadly this is happening more and more in Family Courts across the county. Tip to the protective parent: keep your emotions in check. While I know this is hard, its a must. The judge sees a calm cool and collective NNN. They see you (who the NNN has already painted the picture of you being unstable, bitter, and high anxiety) shaking, holding back tears, unable to keep your thoughts together and greatly intimated. (This is all normal reactions to the abuse we have endured). You cannot go before the Judge, mediator or GAL in that state. If you do it makes everything he/shes already implied seem true. Therapy is so important NOW. You may need medication and thats okay. You need to learn the tools to cope. You need to be able to get organized before the proceeding. Appearance counts for a lot. He/She is a master manipulator who has been acting for many years, its easy for him/her. Get yourself together for your babies. Secure your oxygen mask first. He/Shes counting on you to be emotional. Save it for after court. Hugs. Lorrie
